NetWorker® BusinesSuite™ Module for SAP R/3 on Oracle® |
Table of Contents |
The Module for SAP R/3 on Oracle is a BusinesSuite™ option for Legato NetWorker that delivers online data protection for SAP instances by providing a seamless connection to SAP backup utilities, including BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, BRRESTORE, and SAPDBA. The application Module is an implementation of the SAP Backint specification which defines a high-performance API between NetWorker and the SAP R/3. The Module and the SAP utilities integrate backup and recovery services for SAP instances into NetWorker's comprehensive, enterprise- strength storage management solution.
The storage management server runs the NetWorker administrative software, with a backup device connected to it. Using the BusinesSuite Module for SAP R/3, the system running SAP R/3 is configured as a client of the NetWorker server. The storage management server software and SAP database server software may run on the same system or separate systems. The application Module is a client-side product, and must reside on the same system as the SAP database server.
All BusinesSuite Modules are licensed on a per NetWorker client basis, and require a client connection, as well as the appropriate NetWorker client software. The BusinesSuite Module for SAP R/3 on Oracle software is available for Solaris, HP and AIX SAP instance protection. SAP backup utilities simplify the backup/restore process and ensures that all of the data required is protected. |
What about SAP on databases other than Oracle? | The SAP backup utilities are only available for Oracle. In the case of other databases, an online database backup is the SAP-recommended method. |
How is a backup/restore initiated? | The SAP Administrator initiates a backup through SAPDBA. SAPDBA provides a console to drive backups and restores. Other utilities, such as BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, and BRRESTORE are supported as well. |
